Message by Gordan Cameron Race report: Man, it?s miserable on the road today. It?s a strongman?s stage, not super mountainous but with barely a yard of flat road. The effects of a twelve day stretch without a rest will be accumulating nastily in the legs of the Giro gruppo as today promises a horrible selection on the final slopes. Here?s what happened ?
Message by NONE Photo Report: The hardest stage of the race showed the best racing too ? from a swashbuckling attack by Chris Horner to Gesink?s duel with Atapuma. PEZ?s Darrell Parks captured all the action here?
Message by Edmond Hood Roadside St. 14: YMCA blasts, the girls dance, the Haribo alligator smiles and the old clock tower looks out over the noise, colour and an organisation which seems always to teeter on the edge of chaos. The Giro hits Cherasco.
Message by Alastair Hamilton Race Report: You don?t see the Costa Rica flag next to a Grand Tour stage winner's name very often, but today Andrey Amador won the hardest stage so far of this Giro d?Italia. Behind him Ryder Hesjedal jumped Joaquim Rodriguez to take back that pink jersey for Canada (and Norway). Will we ever have a boring stage of the Giro d?Italia?
Message by NONE Photo Report: Sylvain Georges of AG2R La Mondiale took an impressive win on his own, while Dave Z held on to Yellow. PEZ?s Darrell Parks captured all the action of stage 6 here?
Message by Edmond Hood Roadside St.13 Dave gives me the lead out, past Ag2r, past Renshaw, past Brown - and there's Cav ! I'm up to him, past, elbow the guy to my right and snap, snap, snap ! We got the Cav picture we need to complete the piece. If this was le Tour a gendarme would have us face down on the tarmac by now. But the Giro is different, if you're cheeky enough, you can go straight through the bunch to the front, at the start - but only if your lead out man is the best . . .
Message by Richard Pestes Sometimes the ride I set out to do ends up a complete disaster, while the whole event ends up being an experience I wouldn?t trade. My recent day riding the L?Etape du California along the ATOC's 8th stage route produced more personal on-bike suffering than I care to remember, but was a weekend well worth the effort.
Message by Dave Aldersebaes With a much shorter day than yesterday at just 121 flat kilometers from Savona on the coast heading inland to Cervere, one had to think it might be a day off of sorts in the peloton. Wrong. Sparks flew as the opportunists seized the moment, and Cav took his third win of the race.
Message by NONE Photo Report: Peter Sagan?s amazing winning streak ended at yesterday?s TT, where the real contenders for this year?s race emerged with guns blazing. Garmin-Barracuda?s Dave Zabriskie took control, but the Queen stage is still ahead. PEZ?s Darrell Parks shot all the action?
Message by Edmond Hood Roadside St. 12 Jack Bauer, no, not the one on the TV - the real one, cooler than that Sutherland guy. The former Kiwi elite national champion has stepped up from Scottish Continental team Endura to the big time with US World Tour outfit, Garmin for 2012. And if you've been watching the Giro on TV then you'll be aware that the man from the other side of the globe is a major part of the Garmin pink machine. We caught up with Jack just before stage 12 to Sestri Levante where the team buses parked up outside a marble cutting yard.
Message by NONE Photo Report: It was another day for the record books, as Liquigas-Cannondale?s Peter Sagan scored his 4th straight win in as many stages ? amazing stuff. PEZ?s Darrell Parks presents his photos of the day?
Message by Gordan Cameron Race report: One of those days where you hear the old proverbials being trotted out. ?You can?t win the Giro today, but you can lose it.? Or you can take your eye off the game for a second and allow someone tricky to sneak up the road ? a short, sharp shocker of a stage to Sestri Levante. Here?s what happened ?
Message by Alastair Hamilton The Giro d?Italia is still coming up with the excitement we love, but is it too dangerous? ?Top Story? asks the question. The Giro has been great though and we have the up to date results and video?s. More from the Tour of California, plus last Sundays Lincoln Grand Prix from England, add in some Tom Boonen info and some Gino Bartali retro and we have a full EuroTrash Thursday. Cappuccino e un biscotto Garibaldi?
Message by Charles Manantan Mavic's new Altium skins are no place near the typical schwag level product produced by most hardware companies... This is top spec product that you would expect from the better names in apparel.
Message by Richard Pestes Thursday?s 12th stage visits one of my very favorite regions of Italia ? Liguria. I?ve spent some good time here, and in 2009 rode what?ll be the final 70 kms of this year?s stage 12. Never straight, never flat ? it?ll be one to watch. Here?s how my ride looked?
Message by Edmond Hood Roadside St.11: 'It's good to talk,' the advertising campaign for British Telecom used to say. With that in mind, before the Assisi roll out we grabbed hold of the DS's of the red and pink jerseys to get their take on the race so far.
Message by NONE Photo Report: In spite of a tough climb over the feared Mt. Diablo, Liquigas-Cannondale?s fast man Peter Sagan made tour history by winning his 3rd straight stage. PEZ?s Darrell Parks presents his photos of the day?
Message by Alastair Hamilton Race Report: Today?s stage 11 came down to a sprint, but with the tight corners coming to the line there was the inevitable crash which split the leaders giving ?Bad Boy? Roberto Ferrari the gap he needed to win. Mark Cavendish was in the wrong gear and Matt Goss wasn?t there at all. It wasn?t Ferrari?s fault this time and he took the stage win well. Yet more Giro excitement!
Message by Edmond Hood Roadside St.10: 'The Rough Guide' isn't kind to Civitavecchia, they reckon the only reason to visit is if you're catching a ferry - oh well. We've been here before, on the way back from Sardinia in 2007 - we had to forced march from the docks to the car hire office...let's take a closer look at yet another amazing stage - this time, to Assisi!
Message by NONE Photo Report: His second win that is... Monday?s stage 2 of the Amgen Tour of California rolled from San Fransisco to Santa Cruz, and Liquigas? Peter Sagan took his second stage win in convincing fashion. PEZ?s Darrell Parks was on course, and here?s how it looked through his lens?
Message by Dave Aldersebaes Race Report: Katusha?s Joachim Rodriguez made the most of this tailor-made finish, and swiped an impressive victory and with it, the coveted maglia rosa. Another punchy day filled with action, so buckle up and read on!
Message by Josh Horowitz While I was racing I did some crazy mental training. Hours upon hours of affirmations. Up Topanga Canyon, down Tuna, up Latigo, down Kanan Dune, up the PCH, up Mulholland, down Encinal and finally back through Malibu, Santa Monica, Venice and finishing on the Ballona Creek bike path into Culver City. All the time listening to tracks off The Ultimate Cyclist CD and repeating the affirmations to myself out loud and with conviction.
Message by Edmond Hood Roadside St.9: The GreenEdge is first round that horrible corner, he looks back; 'where the Hell is Matt?' Matt's nowhere to be seen - but Ryder is right there, at the head of this finale madness.
Message by NONE Photo Report: The Amgen Tour of California rolled out Sunday in Santa Rosa, and by all accounts is off to a great start. Liquigas Peter Sagan took the win and first leader?s jersey, and PEZ?s Darrell Parks is capturing the race as only he can? here?s how stage 1 looked.
Message by Alastair Hamilton Race Report: Another crazy Giro stage finish with attacks and crashes coming one after the other in the last 10 kilometres. In the end the top fast-men were sat on the road nursing their wounds as Movistar?s second line sprinter; Francisco Ventoso swept to a fine stage win. The 2012 Giro d?Italia never stops giving excitement and today was no different.
Message by Alastair Hamilton The Giro d?Italia has really started now that its back in Italy, we catch up with the weekend?s action, throw in the Tour de Picardie and the first stage of the Tour of California and we have EuroTrash Monday. ?Top Story? is the Bruyneel/Armstrong developments and there are the usual interesting Press Releases.
